Northwest A&F University is located in Yangling, Shaanxi Province. The University originated from National Northwest Junior College of Agriculture and Forestry founded in 1934. In September 1999, seven teaching and scientific research institutions merged, namely Northwest Agricultural University, Northwest Forestry College, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Northwest Institute of Water Resources Science, Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shaanxi Provincial Academy of Forestry, and Northwest Institute of Botany, and became today’s Northwest A&F University.
The University’s motto is “Sincerity, Simplicity, Bravery and Perseverance”. It has a Graduate School and 28 colleges (departments), with 2,610 full-time faculty members and nearly 37,600 full-time students. The University hosts 14 postdoctoral research stations, offers 17 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 31 first-level disciplines authorized for master’s degrees, and 79 undergraduate programs. Fourteen disciplines rank in the top 1% globally in the ESI rankings, with three disciplines—Agricultural Science, Plant and Animal Science, Environmental Science and Ecology—ranking in the top 1‰, and Agricultural Science entering the top 0.1‰. At present, it has developed into an agricultural university with the most complete agricultural, forestry and aquatic disciplines in China. Since its establishment, it has cultivated nearly 300,000 talents, who are now spread across China and abroad, with 28 alumni elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The University has established cooperative relationships with 106 renowned universities and research institutions across 31 countries and regions. It has also jointly established an overseas campus in cooperation with Tashkent State Agrarian University in Uzbekistan.
